Holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving and even Halloween can often affect the habits of Pornhub visitors, so our friends at Mashable checked in to see how Valentine’s Day stacks up to the rest. Your own plans this Valentine’s Day might depend on whether you’re dating, married or single. But we soon discovered that regardless of relationship status, Valentine’s Day has a significant effect on traffic to Pornhub and the terms people search for.

With passion reserved for pleasing partners, Pornhub traffic drops as much as -17% after 6pm on Valentine’s Day, with the peak drop happening around 9pm. Traffic to the site recovers somewhat towards midnight, but stays below average for several hours, perhaps because people already found the love they were seeking.

When we break down traffic changes by gender, we find that women proportionately have a larger decrease of around -22% at 9pm on Valentine’s, while traffic from men drops by -16%. Men visit Pornhub at an average level right up to 6pm, but women see significant drops throughout the afternoon, going as low as -12% at 2pm.

Traffic on Valentine’s evening drops as low as -19% for visitors under the age of 34, but the 18-24 group hit’s their low an hour later at 11pm versus 10pm for 25-34s. Interestingly, the 25-34 traffic is below average throughout the afternoon, but the 18-24 year old group has equally above average traffic during the same time period. 35 to 44 year olds have a sudden +4% increase in traffic around 6pm, before dropping off after 8pm and reaching a low of -15% at 10pm. 45 to 54 year olds have the least change on Valentine’s evening, with a low of -12% at 10pm. Visitors over the age of 55% have the earliest traffic drop of all age groups, down nearly 10% between 6pm to 7pm.

On average, traffic across the United States drops by -10% from 6pm to Midnight on Valentine’s. Nevada has the largest drop during this time period of -22%, followed closely by -20% in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New York. The states that are least likely to give up Pornhub on the most romantic of all evenings are Minnesota, Louisiana and Vermont with only -2% traffic drops.

Searches containing the term “Valentine” begin to increase in the days leading up, with a massive +1093% increase on Valentine’s day compared to average daily levels.

Other related search terms increase significantly on Valentine’s Day. Searches containing “love” go up by +269% on average, but with a much larger increase of +335% by men, and 203% by women. Men are also +203% more likely to search for “passionate” (compared to +124% for women), and +223% for “romance” (compared to +98% for women).

Visitors looking for some tips to please their partners are more likely to search for terms like “massage” (+148%), “seduce” (+111%), “sensual” (+101%) and even “kinky” (+115%).

The couples who invest more time in dinner and dancing, might be responsible for a +74% increase in “quickie” to end off the evening, and for something new to try, “bondage” searches increase by +71%. And let’s not forget about the babysitter that was left at home. Searches for “babysitter” porn increase by +34% for women, but only +13% for men.

In this edition of Insights, we’re once again collaborating with Side3.no for a second annual look at how Norwegians enjoy using Pornhub. Norway ranks 26th worldwide for traffic to Pornhub, even though it’s population places it at 119th. That works out to 19 visits and 158 page views per capita in 2016. As in most countries, Norwegians tend to visit Pornhub more between the hours of 10pm to Midnight, with Sunday being the most popular day and Friday the least.

The most searched for terms in Norway are “Norwegian” and “Norsk”, although “Norway” has dropped 6 places over the last year to now rank 14th. Searches for the game “Overwatch” and “VR” content have had the highest rates of growth over the last year.

The most viewed categories in Norway are “Lesbian”, “MILF” and “Teen”. In nearby Sweden and Denmark, “Anal” ranks as the number one viewed category, but only places 4th in Norway.

The most searched for Pornstar in Norway is Kim Kardashian, followed by Mia Khalifa and Lisa Ann. As we discovered in our 2016 Year in Review, the same trio of talents are tops in popularity throughout most of the world.

28% of Norwegian visitors are women, just slightly higher than the worldwide average of 26%. 30% of neighboring Sweden’s traffic comes from women. The average age of Norway’s visitors is 38, which is slightly older than the worldwide average of 35. Most of that difference is due to 30% of Norwegian visitors being over the age of 45, compared to a worldwide average of only 22%.

The most popular search term for Norwegian women is “lesbian”, whereas men are more patriotic minded and search most often for “norwegian”. Proportionately, women are 1866% more likely to search for “romantic sex” compared to men, who are 332% more likely to search for “shemale”.

50% of Norway’s traffic comes from smart phones, compared to just 41% a year ago. Desktop use of 34% remains higher than the worldwide average of 28%.

On average, Norwegians spend 9 minutes and 27 seconds each time they visit Pornhub, just a few seconds less than the worldwide average of 9 minutes 36 seconds, but 8 seconds longer than neighboring Sweden. Visitors from Sor-Trondelag come and go 16 seconds faster than the national average, whereas Norwegians in Hedmark take 27 seconds longer.

Visitors from Oslo are 114% more likely to search for “tickling” when compared to the rest of Norway. In Hordaland, the “Interracial” and “Cartoon” categories are viewed over 30% more often. In Akershus, searches for “granny lesbian” are 222% more popular, along with “foot worship” up 239%. Visitors from Rogaland are 602% more into “pirate” porn, and enjoy a “facial” 175% more than the rest of the country.

In Sor-Trondelag, searches for “bondage” are 129% more popular, and the “Red Head” category is viewed 26% more often. Ostfold visitors are 262% more into “swingers” and 209% more for “smoking”.

On Tuesday, February 7th, the first of the five-night run of the most famous Italian music events took place. Yes, we are talking about the Italian song Festival of Sanremo!

The festival is a song contest held annually since 1951 in the so-called “city of flowers” Sanremo in the Ligurian seaside. Over the years, this traditional show how launched several world-famous Italian singers such as Andrea Bocelli, Laura Pausin and Eros Ramazzotti.

This 67th year of the Sanremo Music Festival was broadcast as usual on the National Channel Rai Uno from the Ariston Theatre, and hosted by Carlo Conti and Maria De Filippi. 22 famous Italian singers present their previously unreleased songs in an attempt to win the competition.

In the first night of the show, 11 singers appeared, including some international artists such as Clean Bandit and Ricky Martin. More than 11 million people tuned in to watch the show live, so we joined with our friends at Fanpage.it to see if the talented voices were enough to take people’s attention away from Pornhub.

Our statisticians discovered that compared to an average day, Italy’s traffic started to drop shortly after the live competition began.

We experience the biggest drop (-15%!) between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m., during which we saw Tiziano Ferro with Carmen Consoli, Al Bano, Raul Bova and Paola Cortellesi with Antonio Albanese…bravo guys! Our loyal Italian visitors think you are better than porn!

After that, when the Festival was going to end, the traffic began to rise again, increasing 4% above Italy’s normal levels after the end of the show.

The average traffic loss in Italy was around 7%, but taking a look at individual Italian regions, we can see that the one that expierenced the biggest drop is Basilicata, where it dropped as much as 13% — looks like in Potenza people really enjoyed the Festival! After Basilicata we have: Sardinia (-10%), Toscany (-10%), Apulia (-9%) and Marche (-9%). Meanwhile people from Friuli-Venezia Giulia (-5%), Veneto (-4%),  Trentino-Alto Adige (-4%),  Valle D’Aosta (-4%) and Molise (-3%) didn’t seems to pay so much attention to the songs and preferred to have fun on our website.

Martedì sera è andata in onda la prima delle cinque serate di uno degli eventi più amati dagli italiani…sì, stiamo parlando proprio del Festival di Sanremo!

La 67esima del Festival, come da tradizione trasmessa in Eurovisione dal Teatro Ariston di Sanremo, quest’anno vede alla conduzione Carlo Conti con la nostra adorata Queen Mary, e una gara canora disputata tra 22 cantanti nella categoria Big e 8 in quella dei Giovani.

Durante la prima puntata di martedì, vista da oltre 11 milioni di telespettatori, si sono susseguiti sul palco i primi 11 cantanti in gara e molti ospiti italiani e internazionali, come Tiziano Ferro, Ricky Martin e i Clean Bandit.

Diamo un’occhiata a come questo grande evento ha influito sulle visite al nostro sito!

Il nostro dipartimento di statistica ha scoperto che dall’inizio dello show il traffico ha iniziato a scendere vertiginosamente, come si può notare dal grafico.

Il punto più basso (ben -15%!) è stato raggiunto tra le ore 22 e le 23, ora durante la quale si sono esibiti sul palco dell’Ariston: Tiziano Ferro con Carmen Consoli, Al Bano, Raul Bova e Paola Cortellesi con Antonio Albanese. Bravi ragazzi! A quanto pare per i nostri visitatori preferiscono voi al porno!

A seguito di questo picco al ribasso, il livello di traffico ha ricominciato a salire, culminando in un +4% rispetto al traffico medio poco dopo la fine della messa in onda del Festival, intorno all’una di notte.

Il calo medio del traffico in Italia durante la prima puntata è stato del 7%, ma analizzando le singole regioni notiamo che la Basilicata è la regione che ha registrato il picco negativo più alto, con un -13%,  seguita Sardegna (-10%),  Toscana (-10%),  Puglia (-9%) e Marche (-9%).

Le regioni che hanno invece preferito il nostro sito al Festival sono il Friuli-Venezia Giulia (-5%), il Veneto (-4%), il Trentino-Alto Adige (-4%), la Valle D’Aosta (-4%) e il Molise (-3%).

Siamo davvero curiosi di sapere quale cantante si aggiudicherà il tanto ambito premio sanreseme, e nei prossimi giorni vi sveleremo altre curiosità sul nostro Festival preferito.

The 51st Super Bowl took place on Sunday February 5th and saw AFC champions the New England Patriots play NFC champions the Atlanta Falcons. In the year’s largest televised sports event, millions watched as the Patriots overcame the largest deficit in Superbowl history to beat the Falcons 34 to 28 in overtime. Many live sports events cause a major drop in Pornhub’s traffic, but few are as drastic as the Super Bowl, when even non-football followers tuned in to see Lady Gaga’s halftime show, and the myriad of big budget commercials. Our friends at Cnet checked in to see how this year’s game stacked up.

Shortly after the game kicked off at 6:30pm, traffic across the United States dropped by -27%, and remained well under normal Sunday levels right up to the game’s end at 10:30. Pornhub visits immediately surged after the game ended, not just returning to normal levels, but reaching 9% above average at 11pm. Now there’s some real overtime ball play!

Everyone likes to root for their home teams, so we found some of the largest traffic fluctuations in the states of Massachusetts and Georgia. In both, traffic dropped sharply at the beginning of the game, with Georgia reaching a low of -37% below average at around 9pm. Even as defeat seemed certain, Massachusetts traffic still remained lower at -40%. Then something amazing happened — the Patriots began one of the largest turnarounds in football history. As word quickly got around to Bay Staters, traffic plummeted to -53% below average at 10pm, about the same time as it began to increase in Georgia.

At the end of the game, fans for both teams headed back to Pornhub to either celebrate their win or feel better about their team’s loss. At midnight traffic in Georgia was up +18% above average, but an amazing +30% increase in Massachusetts as fans did their own version over-cumming.

Visitors to Pornhub clearly had the Super Bowl on their mind as they visited the site on game day. Searches for “Super Bowl” and “Superbowl” were up 2451% on February 5th, along with a 407% increase for “NFL” and a 394% increase for “Football”. Once again “Patriots” won with a 1608% increase for their team name versus 386% for “Falcons”. For many viewers it was “Lady Gaga” that stole the show with a 598% increase in searches for her name, and 2432% for “halftime”.

While traffic was down 24% across the entire U.S. from 6pm to 11pm, not all the states were united in their love of football. Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New Hampshire all dropped more than 40%, while some Southern states like Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi only dropped by 17% to 18% during the game.
